“We exist to disrupt and inspire.” That’s what lies at the heart of The Fussy Vegan, a vegan eatery situated in the lovely neighbourhood of Gardens, Cape Town.
The Fussy Vegan was established in Jozi in 2018 and started out with the mission of educating people about veganism. Speaking up about what veganism means for animals is an important aspect of their vision. They opened their Cape Town branch in January this year, but they also have three stores in Johannesburg and were voted the best vegan restaurant in the 2021 Best of Joburg Awards.
They have an impressive selection and variety of dishes on their menu, and they’ve got you covered for all the important meals of the day. Their breakfast options include a yummy-looking breakfast burrito filled with tofu scramble, seitan bacon, salsa, sriracha, black rice and avo. For lunch, choose between several “Tex-Mex & Bowls” dishes or subs. Their burger options are perfect for a lazy night in; the Kimchi and Avo Burger seems particularly exciting. Top it all off with any of their four vegan desserts. Their menu is available for dine-in, take-away and delivery.
Long-time vegan and happy customer Joan Redelinghuys characterizes them as the perfect laid-back vegan spot that doesn’t try too hard to be overly health-focused. She recommends the Lunchtime Burrito, Toasted Vegan Cheese and Tomato Sandwich for light meals that won’t weigh you down. And the Saucy Fries are “the perfect drunk food” for those weekend nights (or midweek nights – no judgement from us!).
Joan also adds that the customer service is tops. “The first time I ordered a delivery from [The Fussy Vegan], I was really excited when I received a personalised note on the bag – it truly is the little things.” She praises their friendly and super quick service.
As the name suggests, The Fussy Vegan caters to fussy eaters who wish to commit to the vegan diet or lifestyle but don’t want to sacrifice the easy-eating options of fast-food restaurants.
