On 19 November, South Africa’s culinary luminaries gathered for the 2023 Eat Out Woolworths Restaurant Awards. The event marked a showcase of culinary excellence, with over 800 esteemed guests in attendance.
The Franschhoek Valley, known for its revered culinary capital title, proudly showcased its exceptional dining landscape, with numerous local establishments receiving accolades in the prestigious star-rating system.
Stars were awarded in the 1 star category for points earned between 70 and 79 out of 100; 2 stars required between 80 and 89 points and 3 stars required more than 90.

Chief Judge Abigail Donnelly commended the restaurants for their unwavering commitment and creativity.
Franschhoek’s star-studded restaurants:
- 1-Star Achievers: Franschhoek’s culinary finesse was evident in several restaurants, including Chef’s Warehouse at Maison, Le Coin Français, Orangerie at Le Lude and Protégé, achieving 1-star status.
- 2-Star Recognition: Epice stood out among the 2-star awardees, marking its position in the elite culinary circle.
- 3-Star Laureates: The height of success was reached by ARKESTE by Richard Carstens and La Petite Colombe, each securing a prestigious 3-star rating.
A special accolade for La Petite Colombe
Beyond their 3-star triumph, La Petite Colombe also clinched the ‘Eat Out Patrón Mixology Award’, celebrated for its exceptional cocktails and innovative non-alcoholic drink offerings.
The 2023 Eat Out Woolworths Restaurant Awards not only celebrated individual achievements but also highlighted the Franschhoek Wine Valley’s significant role in shaping South Africa’s culinary scene.
