A new library has opened in Brandwag, Mossel Bay, and it’s a treasure worth millions.
Yesterday, October 20, together with Acting Executive Mayor: Alderman Dirk Kotze and the Minister of cultural affairs and sport, Anroux Marais, the official and thrilling opening happened.
With a scenic central location, the new library provides access to all – a key desire for Marais’ department.
Of the book lover’s new haven, the Western Cape Government has dished out the detailed worth of the library as follows:
- 3 535 books
- A collection worth R317 389. 39
- ICT equipment worth R49 516.07 and
- Infrastructure costs of R650 000.
Of the new gem, Minister Anroux Marais expressed that:
“As public libraries highlight the cultural, educational and recreational aspects of the library services offered by the Department of Cultural Affairs and Sport, we have prioritized increasing the number of facilities available to all those we serve as libraries serve as the hub of gainful opportunities in our communities across the province.”
“To the community of Brandwag, while the wait was a bit longer due to the pandemic, this is not the Western Cape Government’s library nor the Municipality’s, it is FOR YOU, for the community, for your children and for a brighter future to become all you can while exploring endless horizons in Mossel Bay”, the Minister closed.
Looks like we may just be heading out to Mossel Bay for more than just an out-of-town beach escape, but rather another kind of escape all book-lovers know well.
