With Tourism Month in full swing, the ‘Freedom to Wish’ campaign returns this September, with the City of Cape Town and Cape Town Tourism calling on all locals to nominate themselves or a loved one for a chance to make one of their tourist dreams come true.

To give back to locals for their continued support, the ‘Freedom to Wish’ initiative is on a mission to give Capetonians the opportunity to experience the cultural, natural and historical richness of our home first-hand.

Enver Duminy, CEO of Cape Town Tourism, says that not everyone can afford a ticket up the cableway, a helicopter flip over the city, a walking tour with a qualified tour guide through a community in Cape Town, or the wealth of other treasures the city is renowned for.

‘We want to give more Capetonians the chance to experience these gems and others, by grabbing our wands and being their personal fairy godparent,’ added Duminy.

Having launched the campaign last year, Duminy told SmileFM that it was a phenomenal success that saw hundreds of wishes to the value of over R150 000 granted, small businesses boosted, communities empowered and Capetonians celebrated over Tourism Month.

Whether it’s a stay at a 5-star hotel, a cooking class or paragliding over the mountains, the initiative is planning to showcase something for every kind of traveller to enjoy this year.

How it works:

The ‘Freedom to Wish’ campaign kicked off on 1 September and will run until 26 September 2023.

To enter, nominate yourself or a loved one who resides in Cape Town by sharing the one thing you or they would love to experience in the greatest city in the world and why.
