Three students from Lentegeur Secondary School in Mitchells Plain have received Mayoral Civic Pride awards for their positive impact on the community.
Lentegeur High is among 15 schools that took part in the Mayoral Civic Awards initiative.
The City of Cape Town and its mayor present these awards to honour exceptional community service, significant contributions to the city’s overall population, personal sacrifices and efforts towards nation-building.

As per People’s Post, Local Ward 76 Councillor Avron Plaatjies spoke about the student’s involvement in the Stratus Youth Project. On various occasions, they helped with meal preparation that was later distributed in the community.
‘They are empowered with skills where they, in turn, would teach their peers valuable life skills and promote freedom of expression through sports, and they introduced volleyball to the youth of the Rocklands community,’ said Plaatjies.

‘Congratulations to these three learners, and a big thank you to the executive mayor for this honour,’ he added.
The students were active in the community improvement project this past June that involved introducing their peers to the game of volleyball.
School Principal Keith Damon praised their efforts in a written statement, saying, ‘What better way to celebrate our youth than by empowering them with skills where they, in turn, would teach their peers valuable life skills and promote freedom of expression through sports participation? These young men displayed diligence, patience and great leadership throughout by providing their peers with a basic introduction to the game of volleyball.’
