There’s nothing better than a cold beer on a warm day. Or a cold day, actually. South Africans are known to enjoy their beers around a braai, watching sport or reclining by the pool.

It comes as no surprise then, that Newlands Brewery (part of South African Breweries Limited) in Cape Town is already celebrating their 200th birthday this year. This proudly South African brewery is the maker of many favourite drinks.

The best part is, you can visit them right on site and take a tour through the magnificent brewery that is also a National Heritage Site.

On the tour, your extremely well-informed (and sneakily witty) guide will take you on an immersive journey, showing you the wonders of beer brewing and all the hard behind-the-scenes work that goes into getting a bottle in your hand.

The barley, maize and hops used for brewing are certified as non-GMO, which means that they are not genetically modified in any way. SAB also uses as many locally produced ingredients as possible, making your beer fresh while supporting local agriculture.

The tour ends off with a well-deserved tasting so you can pick your favourite in their newly revamped tap room. Tours can accommodate up to 70 people, so it’s a great opportunity for large groups celebrating events like birthdays or staff parties.
