Franschhoek, the Cape’s wine valley known for its vineyard allure, delicious views and tantalising country charm, is having its moment in the sun, following the announcement last month that it’s one of the top spots where millionaires are flocking.
However, if you’re looking to stay for a good time but perhaps not a long time and really want to capitalise on the country atmosphere, there are some incredible farm spots awaiting your arrival.
One thing that all of these barn-like gems have in common, is that they are a part of Hog Heaven – AKA Pigcasso’s grounds.
If you haven’t heard of Pigcasso, the talented oinker made world news last year for creating an artwork worth more than R400 000.
Pigcasso is an icon of the Western Cape, slaved from slaughter a month after being born. Pigcasso stands as a beloved (and perhaps the most unexpected artist) in the Cape, who has created hundreds of artworks.
Along with owner Joanne Lefson, Pigcasso resides at none other than Farm Sanctuary in the Franschhoek Valley, where you can book a stay!
One of the top options is the barn to end all barns, boasting tantalising mountain views, star-studded skies, and a barn experience married with loft luxury, Pigcasso wine for purchase and adorable animals.
The space is spoilt with an open plan and the buzz of animal life complemented by the privacy of your stunning loft area.
If it’s a unique experience you’re after, then X marks the spot (painted by Pigcasso of course).
Beyond the epic barn, there are other fabulous places to stay at Farm Sanctuary, the home for rescued animals and adventure seekers, and you can check them out at Farm Sanctuary’s website or on Airbnb.
