#HighburyHearsYou – we at Cape Town Etc are passionate about getting local restaurants back and booming in business. As part of our #HighburyHearsYou initiative, we’re dishing out the deets on some incredible restaurants in and around town.

Food has become my best friend over the years. Good Food has gotten me through good days, where everything is sunshine and roses as well through the bad days where one bite would lift your spirit says Cape {Town} Etc’s Byron Lukas. “From the man selling Boerewors rolls on to the corner to the waiter serving caviar at a five-star restaurant.” However, there are a few places that make me  appreciate life more.

Favourite Breakfast spot: Abenaki Spur, Promenade mall

While everyone calls it “the most important meal of the day” I’m not a big breakfast person, because I grab anything that I can eat (LOL) But if I have enough time on my hands to sit down and enjoy a decent brekkie, it has to be a Spur breakfast with coffee. That’s if I make it before 11 am.

Favourite lunch spot: Eastern Food Bazaar, Cape Town CBD

Ever find yourself looking for a good affordable meal? Then Eastern Food Bazaar is the place. Located in Darling Street, you don’t only get good food but that vibe of the CBD’s midday traffic. My favourite meal has to be the Lamb Rogan Josh curry with garlic naan bread, oh and don’t forget the coke.

Favourite dinner spot: M&D Pizza, Mitchells Plain

Although you cant sit down and enjoy the best pizza in the Western Cape at the location, you can still take it home while it’s hot. The large Gheema pizza is my favourite. The trick about this pizza is you have to enjoy it with good company over a nice ice cold cool drink, if you want to go hard then a nice adult beverage would do.

Favourite sweet spot: Everyday We Waffling, Strandfontein

This has to be my favourite place in Mitchells Plain. I might be your typical guy who loves sports and beer, but this family-owned place is something else. My favourite is the Waffle boat, it has three pieces of homemade waffles, three different ice creams and three different toppings. Now you tell me isn’t this heaven?

Favourite drinks spot: Premium Sports Bar, Mitchells Plain

Whether it be after a long day of pleasing your boss or just chilling with the boys, this is my comfort place. Good beer and some good football have never hurt anyone. They also sell food! PS. beer is my favourite but if you throw in a few Jagarbombs then we have a deal.

The great escape: Kalkies, Kalk bay

Whenever life gets me down and I’m all in my feelings, this is where I always find myself, the place where they serve the best fish and chips, fresh from the ocean. My grandparents used to visit this place during post-apartheid so I think I’m just carrying on the tradition, again fresh Hake with a few over the Kalk Bay docks what more could you ask for? unless you try their peri-peri prawns.

These places will always serve as my escape from the world.
