A Cape Town church community is mourning the death of a senior female pastor who was fatally injured in a violent smash-and-grab attack at the Samora robot intersection, with residents being urged to remain vigilant, particularly after dark, Cape {town} Etc reports.
According to the Western Cape Gangwatch Facebook group, the attack happened on a Sunday evening shortly after 20:00, leaving the pastor with severe head injuries after she was struck with a large brick. She was reportedly rushed to Philippi Hospital before being transferred to Groote Schuur Hospital, but despite efforts to save her life, she died from her injuries.
Church community left heartbroken
The pastor’s death has prompted an emotional plea from members of the church, who are asking the public to help spread awareness of the incident and exercise caution when travelling through the area.
In a message addressed to the church family, the victim was remembered as a devoted woman of faith whose death has left a painful void in the lives of those closest to her. The message highlighted the impact on her family, describing her as a mother, wife and daughter, as well as a prayerful figure within the Western Cape community.
‘You have not just taken a life. You have taken a warrior of God,’ the message said, addressing those responsible for the attack.
Residents urged to take extra precautions
The church community has urged motorists to be especially careful around the Samora robot intersection, advising people to avoid the area at night where possible.
Smash-and-grab attacks remain a serious concern for motorists in parts of Cape Town, where criminals can target drivers while vehicles are stationary at traffic lights. Such incidents can escalate rapidly, particularly when weapons are used.
The circumstances surrounding the pastor’s death, including the identity of those responsible and whether any arrests have been made, were not confirmed in the message shared by the church.
The community’s appeal is now focused on raising awareness and encouraging motorists to remain alert when approaching intersections, especially after dark. For the pastor’s family and congregation, however, the warning comes amid profound grief over a life lost in an act of violence.
Cape {town} Etc has reached out to SAPS for further information. This is a developing story, with details to be updated as they are revealed. Anyone with verified information about the incident is encouraged to report it to the South African Police Service.
