The City of Cape Town has opened the applications for the 2024 Junior City Council term. The application deadline is 31 December 2023, with interviews held between 19 February and 23 February 2024.
The announcement comes through the Office of the Speaker, Alderman Felicity Purchase, and is in collaboration with Junior City Council (JCC) Custodian, Councillor Donovan Nelson.
The Junior City Council, an apolitical programme, gives Grade 10s and 11s a chance to better understand how the City Council operates.

The learners serve as City Ambassadors, giving them a chance to develop leadership skills, use community project management abilities and increase their knowledge about local government.
The programme also encourages a sense of active citizenship.
Taking place over a full year, the programme will cover a huge range of sessions, excursions and workshops. Learners will get a chance to read the City’s budget, learn how to formulate a budget, how to run community projects, public speaking skills and how to raise awareness about issues faced by their own communities.
