Liberty Promenade has stepped up to provide essential school shoes for learners in Cape Town. With a firm commitment to the Mitchell’s Plain community, the mall recently led an initiative to address the pressing need for adequate footwear among young students.
Recognising the critical role of proper footwear in a child’s education, Liberty Promenade rallied its shoppers to contribute to the cause.
The initiative, which culminated in the selection of Wavecrest Primary School as the beneficiary, saw 30 learners receive brand-new pairs of school shoes.
The handover event, held on 22 February, was met with smiles and gratitude from the young recipients. Many learners in South Africa face challenges with worn-out or ill-fitting shoes, hindering their ability to fully engage in school activities.

Liberty Promenade’s initiative seeks to alleviate this burden and empower children to pursue their educational goals without obstacles.
The funds for this initiative were raised through the proceeds from Liberty Promenade’s ‘Happy Lab’ festive activation.
The beneficiary learners hail from various areas, including Rocklands, Strandfontein, Bayview, San Remo, Phillippi and Khayelitsha.
Brenda Bibby, General Manager of Liberty Promenade, emphasised the mall’s commitment to educational equity, stating, ‘Every child deserves the opportunity to thrive in school, regardless of their socio-economic background.’
Deon Bougardt, the principal of Wavecrest Primary School, expressed gratitude for the support, highlighting the importance of proper attire in instilling discipline and confidence among learners.
‘This initiative will help empower these learners to feel loved and attend school properly dressed,’ Bougardt remarked.
