The Artscape Theatre is set to be as merry as ever as Veronica Paeper’s festive season creation of Charles Dickens’ legendary tale about the mean-spirited Scrooge, A Christmas Carol, makes its way to the stage this December.
Presented by Cape Town City Ballet at Artscape, audience members are invited to be transported to another world through exquisite costumes, sets and the heartwarming tale of Ebenezer Scrooge’s redemption.
Showcasing the magic of the festive season, this timeless classic told through ballet celebrates the triumph of generosity and the human spirit over greed and the joyfulness of children.

A Star is Born – the rise and fall of Judy Garland
A Star is Born – a cabaret by Kerry Hiles and Luke Holder – tells the story of the undisputed Queen of cabaret Judy Garland from her first stage appearance to her untimely death.
Both a work of entertainment and sophistication, this Wêla Kapela production, written and directed by Amanda Bothma, has played to sold-out audiences at festivals around South Africa and received two Stand Bank Ovation awards at the National Arts Festival in Makanda in 2019 and 2020.
Hailed as a hit at the Edinburgh Festival with a 5-star review from renowned theatre critic Vivien Devlin, audience members can expect to gasp, groan and shake their heads in disbelief as they become transfixed by the life story of one of Hollywood’s most beloved icons.

The Sound Of Music
Prepare to bring out your singing voices – and the tissues too – as the highly-anticipated revival tour of one of the world’s most beloved musicals, Rodgers and Hammerstein’s The Sound Of Music, takes to the Artscape’s stage this December.
Presented by Pieter Toerien Productions with Cape Town Opera, The Sound Of Music marks the 11th and final collaboration between legendary lyricists Rodgers and Hammerstein.
Directed by Steven Stead, this new production, with sumptuous sets and costumes, is set to be a stellar theatrical event which tells the inspirational story, based on the memoir of Maria Von Trapp, of a young nun-in-training and the Von Trapp family as they are forced to make a moral decision when the forces of Nazism take hold of Austria.
Audience members can expect to be swept away by the treasure trove of iconic melodies including My Favourite Things, Climb Ev’ry Mountain, Do Re Mi, Sixteen Going On Seventeen and many more that will stay with you long after the curtain comes down, will be a stellar theatrical event.

Written and directed by Amanda Bothma, with Jacques Du Plessis as musical director, NEXT!!! conveys the story of the feisty Relebogilethata as she navigates a rollercoaster journey of heartache and hope, all in pursuit of obtaining her near-impossible dream – to become a star.
Relebogilethata, played by Dikelo Miamala, promises to dazzle the audience through comedy, music and dance as she see-saws between waitressing, being a chorus girl and bouncing from one audition to the next, singing everything from well-known Broadway hits to the most powerful isiXhosa songs by Miriam Makeba – anything to avoid the dreaded ‘Next!’
