‘The festive season holiday is the longest school break on the calendar and while it’s a time for our children to unwind, it can be stressful for parents who have to keep the young ones entertained,’ said City’s MMC for community services and health Patricia van der Ross.
‘Our departments have put together a bumper programme to help keep children active and mentally stimulated in a safe space,’ added van der Ross.
Filled with lively and engaging activities to ensure that the end-of-the-year holidays are action-packed and full of fun, the Recreation and Parks Department has prepared another holiday recreation programme.
According to the department, the programme provides young ones with an opportunity to safely enjoy a variety of recreational activities, sports and outdoor games, all while enhancing their skills through a different recreational learning environment.
The holiday programme kicks off on Wednesday, 13 December 2023, and will run until Wednesday, 17 January 2024, at more than 130 recreational venues across the city.
These include community centres, sports grounds, play parks, pools, beaches and green spaces, as well as the City’s libraries where events such as arts and crafts, movies, a visit from the City’s Metro Police K9 unit and puppet shows will take place.
‘Our holiday programmes are designed to keep our children busy but also encourage play and teamwork. These activities not only keep them occupied but allow them to interact socially and make new friends,’ explained van der Ross.
‘With so much to offer, there’s sure to be something for everyone,’ she added.
