The Zip Zap Circus School is a non-profit performing arts academy that has been changing lives since 1992.
The school was founded by French-national Laurence Estève and Brent van Rensburg, a South African trapeze artist. Their vision created a nurturing space where children develop life skills, a sense of community and creative expression.
Their youth and outreach programmes have been a cradle for talent, with many alumni realising their dreams, travelling the globe and sharing their creative flair.
The Zip Zap professional troupe’s latest work, MOYA, is a contemporary circus act woven with a narrative of hope. It portrays the resilience and journey of performers, many of whom overcame hardships.
Through juggling, aerial arts, acrobatics and dance, they share stories of struggle, belonging and joy.
Zip Zap’s impact is echoed in the words of performer Phelelani Ndakrokra:
‘I’m living my big dream. To get to travel the world, share my story through my art, and then get to come home and teach the next generation is what I want to do with my life.’
Brent van Rensburg will represent the South African Social Circus at the Cirque de Demain in Paris.
Alan Pacherie, the president of Cirque de Demain, praised Zip Zap’s founders for their inspirational work.
‘I truly admire Zip Zap’s founders, Laurence and Brent. For me, they are a true source of inspiration and we have been looking for an occasion to invite them to France for a long time.’
