The ACT seeks programme personnel to support the NSP in four positions: visual and digital arts mentor, performing arts assistant mentor, stage manager and artistic director.
The ACT NSP is an undergraduate scholarship initiative sponsored by Nedbank, Sun International and the MTN Foundation SA that aims to provide qualifying youth with opportunities to pursue tertiary education in the visual and performing arts.
Simultaneously, the programme aims to provide practicing artists with career-advancing skills, ensuring long-term careers in the current cultural and creative job market.
This year’s programme promises to be fresh, unique and impactful, with two components: the ACT Nyoloha Scholarship Programme and the ACT Nyoloha Training Programme.
Traditionally, the ACT only offered the scholarship programme, which provides art scholarships for young people to pursue tertiary education.
However, ACT has expanded its offerings to include the ACT Nyoloha Training Programme, which provides free training to a select group of exceptional artists who do not plan to pursue a formal tertiary education.
The chosen candidates will participate in a three-month, bi-weekly mentorship and training programme delivered online on Saturdays. The programme includes online training and mentorship from industry experts, with an emphasis on discipline-specific knowledge and information. The 2024 iteration of the programme will place a strong emphasis on the incorporation of immersive technologies into the visual and performing arts.

The ACT Nyoloha Scholarship Programme will conclude with the selection of 15 finalists who will proceed post-training to participate in an intensive week of master classes and rehearsals, culminating in a final performing arts showcase and exhibition to win one of two R300 000.00 scholarships. Participants work with industry professionals, gaining valuable experience and connecting with emerging artists from various backgrounds.
‘ACT is actively seeking dynamic individuals who are not only passionate about the arts but are also dedicated to the development, training, and mentorship of young artists,’ says Jessica Denyschen, CEO of ACT.
‘We are specifically looking for programme personnel who embody creative excellence in their respective fields and possess a knack for innovating with art forms and the application of digital or immersive technologies in performing and visual arts mediums. Crucial to our mission is the exploration of employability opportunities for young creatives. Our goal is to empower the next generation of talented artists through the ACT Nyoloha Scholarship Programme and we are inviting high-performance artists to join us in making a lasting impact on the cultural and creative industries.’
The deadline for applications is Friday, 12 April 2024, at 4:30 pm. Further details regarding the job specifications of each position and the application process are available in the ACT Nyoloha RFP document, which can be found when applying at www.act.org.za/nyoloharfp.
Enquiries or questions must be e-mailed to ACT Programme Coordinator Angelinah Kemane at [email protected]. To keep in touch with the ACT, visit their website, follow them on X or like their Facebook page.
