The iconic Cape Town Opera has a brand-new treat for audiences this September. Artscape’s Opera House will be graced with Tosca, Puccini’s dynamic opera.
The storyline follows two lovers, Floria Tosca and Mario Cavaradossi, as they navigate romance and political turmoil in 1800s Italy.
The opera is known for its profoundly emotional music, crafted with exceptional skill, that accompanies the tale of love, jealousy and passion.
The impressive cast includes Cape Town Opera soloists, Judith Neilson young artists, guest soloists, the Cape Town Opera Chorus, and the Children’s Chorus, who will be accompanied by the Cape Town Philharmonic Orchestra under Björn Bantock.

The Artscape Theatre Centre has been showcasing orchestra, opera and ballet work since it opened in 1971, and has been a central part of the promotion of the performing arts in Cape Town.
Artscape today is a multifunctional creative arts centre, consisting of the opera house, which seats 1 487 people, a theatre seating 540, a smaller theatre seating 140, a piazza, gardens, rehearsal rooms and ample parking.

The Artscape Opera House consists of the main stage, rear stage and two side stages, and offers seating space for 12 wheelchairs.
The orchestra pit, an essential part of such a production, accommodates 75 to 80 musicians.
