The Tygerberg Children’s Choir has made its hometown of Cape Town proud once again! On Tuesday, 2 May, the choir landed back in the country from the UK after competing as the sole representative from South Africa and Africa in the Interkultur Choir competition.

The children’s hard work and dedication paid off as they were crowned first place in the Children’s Choir section and achieved second place in the ‘Sacred’ section at the competition, which was held last month, April 2023.

Having earned a double gold at the 2018 World Choir Games in Pretoria, the choir now holds an impressive fourth position in Interkultur’s global ranking.
Comprising children from various schools across Cape Town, the choir diligently rehearses every Tuesday evening for two hours and on Saturdays for a minimum of four hours.
To commemorate its 50th anniversary, the Tygerberg Children’s Choir has organised a special birthday concert on 23 July at the Cape Town City Hall. The performance will showcase a united choir of past and present members spanning five decades, with the former conductor Hennie Loock leading the ensemble.
