The amount is the total recorded as of today, 18 April. Their run was an effort to raise funds for the firefighting non-profit Volunteer Wildfire Services (VWS).
JP Smith, the City’s mayoral member for safety and security, said the feat was a proud moment for the city. ‘Both firefighters crossed the finish line in the time of two hours and 41 minutes. An amazing feat that has earned the respect of all that and they’ve demonstrated the dedication and endurance of what it truly means to be a firefighter.’
Southern Mail reports that Carelse, a firefighter for the past 22 years, is a divisional commander based at Goodwood Fire Station and is also the city’s Fire and Rescue Services spokesman. Duncan has been serving for 13 years, and is based at the Sir Lowry’s Pass Fire Station.
Donations to the Volunteer Wildlife Service and their participation in full firefighting gear can also be made directly to the VWS here.
