The Ark City of Refuge, a non-profit organisation based in Faure, Cape Town, has received a new industrial cooking pot valued at R40 000 from Shoprite.
This equipment will allow The Ark to continue serving approximately 3 000 nutritious meals per day to hungry and vulnerable groups in the area.
The Ark, known for providing shelter to destitute individuals, including men, women and children, has long been at the forefront of combating hunger in the community.

The retail corporation has regularly donated surplus food and invested in its community food garden. This garden plays a vital role in supplementing The Ark’s feeding programme.
Sanjeev Raghubir, the head of sustainability and CSI at Shoprite Group, highlighted the company’s commitment to combating food insecurity.
‘Our surplus food donations to more than 540 beneficiary organisations, including The Ark, ensured 67 million meals were served to people facing food insecurity during the last year. Through our Act for Change programme, we run an extensive hunger relief programme across South Africa, which includes long-term support for more than 220 food gardens,’ he explained.
