As always, in the spirit of Women’s Month and supporting our local women-entrepreneurs thriving in every sphere, we find ourselves in the culinary industry. Food Stylist, Photographer, Recipe developer and co-owner of Samesyn, Elmarie Berry is a powerhouse unto herself as she simultaneously dominates the library, kitchen, dining room and the photo studio.
Embracing the philosophies that “food brings people and cultures together [and] the fondest memories are made when gathered around a table,” from a young age, Elmarie strives to create beautiful food that not only looks and tastes good, but are fun and easy enough to make on any day – whether it’s a Tuesday night supper, or a dinner party show-stopper.
Although she has already made a prominent name for herself in the industry as a food blogger since 2015, It is this philosophy and her desire to inspire both your stomach and soul that has led to the publication of her first recipe book, Kosbaar.

With the hopes that her recipe book will be a means of memory-making and togetherness for those who use it to cook and for those who get to enjoy its ‘fruits’, Elmarie has graced us with over 100 authentic South African boerekos’ recipes with a Lebanese twist (courtesy of her own fond memories of her Lebanese grandmother’s cooking).
Currently, the recipe book is only available in Afrikaans, but an English version is well on its way.
In celebration of her new cookbook, Elmarie invites you to embark on an intimate gastronomical journey of culinary bliss with cooking workshops in the comfort of her own home as she demonstrates some of the dishes from Kosbaar as well as some newer ones over the next few months.
From food-and-wine-pairing to her favourite healthy meals that the whole family can enjoy. Bring your friends and family because there’s something for everyone. She will teach you tips and tricks on how to use herbs and spices to elevate your dishes as well as how to make your cooking experiences easier and more enjoyable in general.
“Let’s make it a food celebration!”
