After a two-year pandemic-induced hiatus, humans and four-legged friends are invited to strut their stuff at the sixth Paws on the Promenade, a dog walk fundraiser by Khayelitsha’s Mdzananda Animal Clinic, in partnership with Vondi’s Holistic Pet Nutrition.

The dog walk will take place on Sunday, 29 October at 9am. Starting at the Mouille Point lighthouse, the five-kilometre route will extend to the Sea Point swimming pool and back, with shorter turnaround points available for old, tired and injured pets (or humans).
For the sake of inclusivity, everyone is invited, whether you have a pet, are a petless animal lover or simply enjoy a morning walk that makes a difference in the lives of animals in need.
A small number of dogs in need of forever homes will be at the event for those looking to adopt. If you don’t have a dog of your own but would like to take one for a walk, email [email protected].
According to Mdzananda’s fundraising and communications executive and event organiser, Marcelle du Plessis, 2020’s Paws on the Promenade garnered great success with just over 350 dogs joining the fun.
‘On a budget of just R3500, we raised R48 400. We hope to raise even more funds with this year’s event. This, however, all depends on how many wonderful dogs and humans join us for the walk,’ said du Plessis.

Tickets for the event cost R50 per person, R50 per dog and R25 for kids under 12 years old. They are available from Quicket or on the day from 8am at the lighthouse.
Besides a fun-filled morning of laughs, woofs and exercising for a great cause, there are a number of goodies, including raffle prizes, product sales, delectable coffee and food up for grabs, and crafts to keep you and your four-legged fur baby entertained.
Not to mention, the first 100 dogs to arrive receive a free goodie bag – the early bird really does catch the worm, it seems.
In the spirit of the much-loved October holiday, the animal clinic is encouraging all pet owners and petless animal lovers to join the walk to dress up in Halloween style or to represent the Mdzananda Animal Clinic’s brand by wearing something orange.
Please note that all dogs need to be on leashes.
