Stillwater Sports, the organiser of the Totalsports Women’s Race, has announced that the ‘Pink Sea’ is set to return to the streets of Cape Town at the start of October.
This comes after the organisers were forced to cancel the race as a precautionary measure during the eight-day taxi strike that struck violence in parts of Cape Town last month, hoping the event could be rescheduled for a later date.

‘We’re thrilled to announce that the Totalsports Women’s Race Cape Town will take place in 2023, with the new date being Sunday, 1 October,’ said Michael Meyer, managing director of Stillwater Sports.
‘The decision to postpone our Cape Town event from August (due to the taxi strikes) was undoubtedly one of the most challenging we’ve faced as event organisers. We’re incredibly grateful that our sponsors, particularly our title sponsor, Totalsports, shared our commitment to rescheduling rather than cancelling the event.’
‘Witnessing the joy and enthusiasm of the runners in Joburg and Durban on National Women’s Day, we were determined to provide Capetonians with the same experience, added Meyer. ‘We look forward to extending the 2023 Women’s Day Celebrations to Sunday, 1 October, at the Totalsports Women’s Race Cape Town.’
With the good news shared on a Facebook post, the comments section was teeming with excitement from the many runners and walkers who have been patiently waiting for the new race date.
‘It’s only fair that these runners and walkers now have the chance to be part of this amazing experience,’ said Nikki Crous, head of marketing at Totalsports. ‘We can’t wait to see thousands of entrants proudly wearing their pink event tees as they take over the streets of the Mother City.’

One Facebook user, Magdalene Fortune Matheyse, shared in the comments section that she and a small cluster of people took to the beach for a National Women’s Day walk, donning their pink t-shirts.
Crous added that the rescheduled event is guaranteed to be extra special, given that the Totalsports Women’s Race embodies a celebration of the power and endurance of women, and October is Breast Health Awareness Month.
The Women’s Race is hosted by Totalsports and in association with PinkDrive, an NPC committed to improving breast cancer awareness and providing free services to the medically uninsured nationwide.
It must be noted that no new entries will be taken for the rescheduled event.
Entrants who have their original race number can use it on race day, and those who do not have their race numbers or were unable to collect their race packs will be able to do so from 10am to 7pm on 29 September and from 10am to 4pm on 30 September at the Grand Parade.
Details:
- Date: Sunday, 1 October 2023
