They say ‘local is lekker,’ and this year’s Cape Town Carnival demonstrates why with the announcement that YoungstaCPT will be attending the annual party today. The well-known rapper will bring some authentic Cape Town vibes to the event, performing ‘Just Be Lekker’ live on the Schweet float.

He will be among hundreds of glittering, glamorous performers and mind-blowing floats as they parade down Green Point’s Somerset Road this Saturday.
The iconic event showcases creativity and artistry while also providing young and old people from all over the metropole with a safe space to celebrate while taking in the spectacle. Access to the Cape Town Carnival parade route is free, but there are some paid ticket options available.

Community groups, choreographers, costume designers, and float builders are just a few of the many roleplayers who have spent months putting together the various elements that make up one of Cape Town’s most iconic social events. There will be something for everyone to enjoy, whether it is firefighters, African beats, belly dancers, dragons or marching bands.
The parade will take place along the Fan Walk in Green Point. Floats and performers will travel from the start point on Somerset Road near the Green Point Circle to the finish line at Somerset Road and Chiappini Street.
- 3pm: Carnival Villages opens, along with Carnival Village acts.
- 6pm: The Parade Opening followed by the firefighters, Harley’s and more.
- 7pm-10pm: The Themed Parade. LEKKER!
- 9pm-11.45pm: After Party, featuring DJ Tyson, DJ Shannon and DJ Liam – in Carnival Village 1.
Food vendors and food trucks will be on site at the two Carnival Villages on Somerset Street (Carnival Village 1 at P12 and Carnival Village 2 at Gallows Hill).

Floats on display will include the stunning Technicolour Savannah, Umkhuseli (featuring the giant Ant), and Schweet. The popular 7m Dream Doll float has been reimagined as the stunning, proudly African Zwakala float. There will be 43 community groups and over 1500 performers, each bringing their own flavour to the event.
