At last month’s New York Fashion Week, Pantone featured its ‘Rooibos Tea Pantone® 18-1355’ as one of its top ten colours for Spring 2024, distinguishing itself from over 2 390 other shades to claim this spot.
Pantone is not just a name in colour but a global gold standard. Its releases, especially the ‘Fashion Colour Trend Report‘, are keenly anticipated events that take place four times annually, coinciding with the seasons during both the London and New York fashion weeks.
This report serves as a guide, outlining the colour narratives and insights that are predicted to shape fashion, interior design, branding, and even product development.

As explained by Connect Everything Collective, the Pantone Matching System (PMS) assigns unique codes to a myriad of shades, ensuring that colours can be consistently and accurately communicated across industries. This is important in an age where precise colour representation is paramount, from fashion runways to corporate branding.
According to Pantone® Colour Institute experts, the colour palette for NYFW Spring 2024 is steeped in a kind of retrospective warmth, but it also indicates change. It reportedly marks a transition towards a brighter, more optimistic approach to life.

Leatrice Eiseman, the executive director of the Pantone® Colour Institute, elaborated on this theme, explaining, ‘Colours for NYFW Spring 2024 inspire feelings of release. Opening the imagination and amplifying and liberating our own unique artistic spirit enables us to express ourselves in more inventive ways. A harmonious mix of familiar shades infused with a contemporary edge, colours for NYFW Spring 2024 introduce a new interpretation of current times as memories of the past and a glimpse of the future bring hope for the present.’
Eiseman described the ‘Rooibos Tea’ shade as ‘a full-bodied red imbued with rich, woody notes.’
Rooibos tea is a South African beverage that is also a symbol of the country’s cultural heritage and an important export product. This global recognition not only boosts national pride but may also increase the tea’s international appeal, potentially increasing exports.
Furthermore, it draws attention to the rich biodiversity of the Western Cape’s Cape Floristic Region, where the tea is grown, potentially increasing conservation efforts and attracting eco-conscious tourists.
