Rescue divers are continuing efforts in an ongoing search for a missing fisherman after a boat carrying three men capsized near Slangkop Lighthouse, Kommetjie in the early hours of Thursday morning.

The National Sea Rescue Institute (NSRI) Kommetjie Station 26 duty crew responded to reports of a boat with motor failure offshore of the crayfish factory, near Kommetjie.
One of the fishermen managed to swim to shore to raise the alarm of the two remaining men missing at sea.
Dave Smith, NSRI Kommetjie station commander, reports, ‘While NSRI crew investigated, it was reported, from Soetwater Resort security, of a fisherman who had approached them to raise the alarm for 2 of his fellow fishermen missing at sea and reporting his rigid hull inflatable boat (RHIB) capsized near to Slangkop Lighthouse, Kommetjie.’
‘Soetwater Resort security cared for the man while the alarm was raised.’The surviving fisherman was treated by paramedics and once in stable condition, he was reunited with his family at the scene.
The NSRI Kommetjie rescue swimmers located the boat washed onto the rocks and found one adult male deceased on the scene. A search commenced for the missing fisherman.
Rescue teams from Cape Medical Response (CMR), SA Police Services, Cape Town Fire and Rescue Services, WC Government Health EMS, Metro rescue drone, City of Cape Town Law Enforcement and SAPS Water Policing and Dive Services responded to join NSRI Kommetjie on the scene.
NSRI rescue swimmers conducted free-dive sweeping line search efforts while the Metro EMS rescue drone was deployed and conducted aerial search efforts. Rescue efforts, including air, sea and shoreline searches for the missing man are ongoing.
