Fire and Rescue spokesperson Jermaine Carelse told SABC News that 50 firefighters and 14 firefighting resources were deployed to attend to the fire.
A man who sustained serious burn injuries during the incident received prompt treatment and was transported to a nearby medical facility.
No deaths were recorded.
Carelse added that while the fire was successfully contained, firefighters were accosted by some members of the community. Law enforcement and metro police intervened to manage the situation.
The cause of the blaze has yet to be determined but is currently under investigation with the City of Cape Town conducting assessments and mop-up operations continue this morning, reported EWN.
The publication added that Gift of the Givers said it was committed to assist affected families over the next five days, providing blankets, toiletries, baby care packs and new clothing.
The humanitarian organisation is also rendering aid to other Western Cape communities who have fallen victim to fire-related incidents, including Wallacedene in Kraaifontein, Nomzamo in Strand, the Harry Gwala informal settlement in Samora Machel and Browns Farm in Philippi.
