Fairview’s annual winter dinner series, served in three parts each with its own theme, welcomes guests to its Goatshed Restaurant and serves farm-to-fork comfort food, with each dish thoughtfully paired with the finest wines produced on the farm.
At each dinner, the inviting warmth of roaring fires and floor heating sets the tone for a very cosy dining experience.

For the past 18 years, Fairview’s unwavering dedication has been poured into perfecting a menu comprising farm-style comfort food, an array of artisanal cheeses and an enticing selection of fine wines.
Under the guidance of Chef SJ Nel, the philosophy that nothing beats the freshness and quality of homemade drives every aspect of Fairview’s culinary endeavours.
Chef Nel’s mission is to bridge the gap between the field and the table by crafting dishes from scratch and minimising waste by utilising the produce to its fullest extent.
While the Goatshed Restaurant is typically open only during daylight hours, these exclusive dinners present an opportunity to immerse oneself in the convivial and intimate ambience of Fairview after dusk.

Chef SJ Nel takes centre stage for each occasion, curating a heavenly three-course menu that harmonises perfectly with a premium wine selection.
The first of this year’s series, held in May, was themed ‘Homtini Italian Dinner’ and was a feast of Italian flavours. Its accompanying wine paid tribute to the intrepid Italian silk farmers who emigrated to South Africa in the nineteenth century, expecting to find mulberry trees for their silkworms but instead finding themselves in the mulberry-free Knysna Forests.
This month’s dinner is themed Shiraz & Shanks, and the winter dinner series will conclude in August with the Broken Barrel Dinner.
Shiraz & Shanks
The Shiraz & Shanks dinner is a gathering for which there is much anticipation. This exquisite event triumphantly returns each year to sold-out audiences and thunderous applause.
The appeal of warming flavours increases as winter’s chill sets in. Visitors are treated to slow-cooked, fall-off-the-bone lamb shanks. The pièce de résistance is accompanied by Fairview’s signature shiraz, a wine that exquisitely pairs with the succulent shanks.
