South African celebrities from the entertainment industry have united for a noble cause by organising a benefit concert in support of the renowned celebrity chef, Fatima Sydow.
Fatima, who is 49 years old, has been candidly sharing her challenging journey with cancer since she was diagnosed with soft tissue sarcoma in December 2020.

In August of this year, the beloved cookbook author and television personality shared the heartbreaking news that her condition had progressed to stage 4, rendering her unable to continue working.
In a heartfelt appeal, she reached out to her followers for financial assistance.
The event, titled ‘A Song for You, Fatima Sydow,’ is scheduled for 4 October at the Artscape Theatre in Cape Town.
Nur Abrahams explained her inspiration behind this endeavour, saying, ‘I needed to do this for Fatima because what she is going through is so close to home for me, and I’m sure we all had someone affected by cancer. I lost my dad to cancer, and I think for all of us, it’s a pleasure to do this for Fatima, as we all have, at some point, spent time with her, enjoyed her food and enjoyed her lovely personality.’
All the musicians and performers participating in the concert have generously offered their talents pro bono, and the Artscape Theatre has graciously volunteered the venue at no cost.
Fatima Sydow holds a special place in South African culture as she has been a dedicated advocate for promoting traditional South African cuisine, both locally and internationally. Her recipes are a testament to the rich heritage of South Africa.
Jawaahier Petersen, an actress and singer featured in the concert lineup, shared her sentiments, saying, ‘Aunty Fatima has been such a cheerleader of my career and so incredibly supportive of my family. It’s the type of genuine warmth and love that one cannot put a price on. Being involved in this show is my way of showing gratitude and respect to the legend that is Aunty Fatima.’
