Each of these cherished Cape Town venues comes with their own unique atmosphere and setting, and differ quite drastically from one another, giving us amazing options to explore.
This serving of diversity is bound to provide the perfect evening of live music for a variety of listeners.
The Alma Cafe
The Alma Cafe is an intimate and personal venue where the music and performers are the core focus of the evening and the venue has three shows running this weekend! On Friday they will be launching a new event called the Songwriter’s Showcase that will feature three musos who will perform a half-hour set each. On Saturday, the Irish folk group, Jenny and the Jameses returns, and Sunday, the South African Music Award-winning duo, Qadasi and Maqhinga, return for another vibrant evening of African sound.
The Alma operates like a supper theatre. Dinner and beverages will be available for purchase over and above the R160 cover charge.
- Time: Doors open at 6pm and music begins at 7:30pm.
- Please mail [email protected] with the number of tickets and which show you would like to attend.
The MOJO Market
The MOJO Market is another great live music venue that showcases Cape Town’s top talent with shows running every day of the year. This venue is also a market that has a variety of amazing street-food stalls to choose from and over 100 beers on tap at the bar. This Friday, the MOJO stage will be in the capable hands of Leigh Hondy, a husky-voiced singer and guitarist who’s been compared to John Mayer. On Saturday, MOJO rocks out with Major Attention, a rock and pop cover duo with a wide range of musical styles across generations and genres. On Sunday, Lize Mynhardt takes the mic, for an afternoon of personal storytelling through song.

- Tickets do not need to be purchased for performances.
The House of Machines
The House of Machines on Shortmarket Street is perfect if you’re looking for a live music bar type of vibe. This venue has a fantastic food and drinks menu and doesn’t charge for shows. On Friday night, local band Hatchetman will be performing, with their electric vocal harmonies and nostalgic 70’s sound. On Saturday, Age of Waves will be putting on a show of atmospheric rock. Both events are free!
