A 56-year-old man from Klawer in the Western Cape was arrested on charges of kidnapping on Thursday,3 February.
According to police, the arrest comes after the disappearance of a 13-year-old boy who was accused of stealing fruit at the suspect’s residence.
Police spokesperson Colonel Andre Traut said SAPS’s investigation led detectives to the suspect’s residence where human remains were discovered in a sewerage pipe on the premises.
“The body of the victim is yet to be found and it is too soon to speculate on the identity of the remains that were found,” Traut said.
Traut further mentioned that the Police’s investigation has not been concluded as forensic experts are still in the process to examine the crime scene in search of more leads.
“The suspect has since been changed to murder and is expected to make his court appearance in Klawer on Monday 07 February,” Traut explained.

Meanwhile, a body has reportedly been retrieved from a dam in Weltevreden road near Philippi on Saturday, 5 February. However, police are yet to confirm the incident.
