Power utility Eskom has announced a major fibre fault that is affecting the remote switching capabilities of several substations across the Western Cape.

As a result of the poor internet connection, parts of the Overberg, Boland and larger Cape Metropole area can expect delays in power restoration as the utility assesses the operational impact of the fibre network fault. Although some sites have been restored, there is a delay in restoration, particularly after loadshedding slots. Due to the magnitude of the issue, there is currently no estimated time for restoration.
The Eskom National Telecommunication and Field Services team is tending to the situation. The utility also reminds customers that all electrical installations should be treated as live for the duration of the interruption.
