Despite charging patrons up to R1 million for table bookings for a special performance by American singer Akon, Saint Lounge has claimed that the artist essentially backtracked on the deal for his second scheduled performance.

Akon was billed for three performances, from 3 to 5 January, at the pricey hotspot in Harrington Street but was supposedly a no-show on Tuesday, according to an Instagram post shared by the venue earlier this week.
As was the case for its New Year’s Eve festivities, Saint Lounge revealed astronomical fees to see the entertainer, with admission costing anywhere from R350 for basic entrance all the way through to an exorbitant R1 million for some packages.
A basic table package at the venue starts at R5,000 and runs all the way up to R1 million with big spenders and “ballers.” It was advised that those figures were just the “minimum spends”.
According to their statement posted on Saint Lounge’s social media accounts on Wednesday, Akon had failed to show up to his performance on Tuesday 3 January.
The establishment also insinuated that they had been conned into believing that the performer would honour the deal.
“We were approached by representatives of Akon with an opportunity for us to book him,” read the statement. “After numerous meetings, we agreed on a sum to be paid. We then paid over the amount to the representatives as per our agreement in full and on time.”
According to the establishment, the remainder of the “performances” had subsequently been cancelled.
“We are a reputable brand that has always delivered. You, our loyal customers deserve the best and we would like to apologise for any inconvenience caused”.
Saint made no mention of refunds for patrons who attended the event on Tuesday.
