The man suspected of murdering an on-duty police officer was killed on Thursday when he refused to surrender himself to police.

On Wednesday, Atlantis officer Sergeant Adrian Mahoney (44) was killed in Mamre while he and his partner responded to a report of a domestic dispute.
Police confirmed to Cape {town} Etc that an altercation occurred, during which the suspect got hold of his firearm and proceeded to shoot and kill him.
As reported by News24, police followed up on the whereabouts of the suspect on Thursday.
‘It is alleged that the Provincial Crime Combat Unit received information that a suspect who allegedly killed a police officer on Wednesday was hiding in the bushes in the Mamre area,’ says Phaladi Shuping, spokesperson for the Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID).
At around 9:15am, police discovered the man’s hiding spot.
‘They saw him and fired a warning shot, but he fled. They gave chase, and he was cornered.’
Shuping says police fired shots at him when he pointed a firearm at them. ‘The incident was reported to IPID for investigation.’
