A manhunt has been launched by the South African Police Service (SAPS) for a suspect who shot and killed an on-duty SAPS sergeant in Atlantis today.
The incident occurred in the town of Mamre, outside of Atlantis, when the sergeant and his partner responded to a complaint before 1pm, as reported by IOL.

Both were responding to a domestic violence complaint at ‘about 12.45pm’ at Klapmuts Street.
An altercation took place, which resulted in the sergeant being shot and killed. SAPS have confirmed to Cape {town} Etc that the suspect got hold of his service firearm, and shot him with it.
The suspect also fired at his partner but was not harmed in the attack. The suspect subsequently fled the scene on foot.
Detectives from the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation, known as the Hawks, will be investigating the murder, and the identity of the deceased sergeant will be released once his next of kin have been informed.
