A woman who was allegedly pregnant was shot and killed on the corner of Terblanche Street, Bonteheuwel yesterday, Wednesday, February 26. There is speculation that she was pregnant with twins when she died.

“A case of murder has been opened for investigation following a shooting incident that occurred at 5.30pm Terblanche Street, Bonteheuwel. According to reports a 30-year-old woman was shot and wounded by unidentified suspects who are yet to be arrested, the victim died in hospital due to her injuries. The circumstances surrounding this incident are under investigation with no arrests so far,” South African Police Service (SAPS) spokesperson Noloyiso Rwexana said in a statement.

This comes less than a day after young Emaan Solomons was shot in her hand and chest while playing with two friends just outside of her home in Ocean View. The seven-year-old was caught in alleged gang crossfire on the evening of Tuesday, February 25, when fire was opened on a 31-year-old man.

She was rushed to False Bay Hospital, but was declared dead on arrival.

The South African Police Services (SAPS) deployed its Anti-Gang Unit (AGU) minutes later as angry community members turned violent on the evening of Wednesday, February 26.

“AGU members are patrolling the area in Ocean View following a shooting incident that occurred last night in Libra Street,” Rwexana said. “According to available information, a 7-year-old girl was caught in a crossfire and she was wounded in her chest and hand. The child was transported to a medical facility for treatment where she died due to her injuries. It was discovered that a 31-year-old man was shot at Andromeda Way and died due to his injuries.”

It is alleged that four suspects have been apprehended for the Ocean View shootings, with one as young as 17 years old.

President Cyril Ramaphosa also paid a visit to the family of slain Tazne Van Wyk on Tuesday, February 25. The eight-year-old was kidnapped by convicted Moehydien Pangaker and the Ravensmead community also turned violent after he appeared in court earlier this week.
