Seasonal eating can be a burden for many as you count down the days until the perfectly smashed avo and toast touches your soul. But this fruit that dreams are made of is now available all year round to South Africans, thanks to 12 varietals launched by leading producer, ZZ2.
That’s right, you can now enjoy this superfood whenever and wherever you want to! According to Business Insider, the avocado market in South Africa has mainly been dominated by the dark-skinned Hass and Hass-type and the green-skinned Fuerte avocados, and over the years, the demand for year-round availability of Mother Nature’s ‘green gold’ has significantly increased.
Harmony Avs, which was launched by ZZ2 Afrikado, will now allow you to enjoy a wide range of locally grown avocados. The company has reportedly planted trees at different altitudes, which come into season at different times.
Some of the avocado types available for in-season consumption in the country include Fuerte, Lamb Hass, Ryan and Pinkerton.
Women Stuff adds that “In week’s 43 to 49 (starting 17 October) Harmony Avs fans can expect to see Reed avocados in the fresh fruit and vegetable aisles.” Reed avocados have a thick, green skin with slight pebbling and creamy flesh. It’s round in shape with a medium seed, easy to peel and tastes delicious!
