Bafana Bafana have continued their impressive run under Pitso Mosimane with another statement result, this time taking down Egypt on their own turf at the Cairo International Stadium, Cape {town} Etc reports.
South Africa secured a 1-0 victory on Sunday night, with Puso Dithejane providing the decisive moment early in the second half.
The result means Bafana have now won three matches in succession, adding Egypt to victories over Guinea and Eritrea in their recent Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign.
For Mosimane and his players, beating one of Africa’s most recognisable football nations away from home adds another notable result to a run that is beginning to gather serious momentum.
There was already a sense that this would be a memorable night before the teams had even kicked off.
South African President Cyril Ramaphosa visited the Bafana Bafana changeroom at the Cairo International Stadium shortly before the match, where he wished the players well ahead of their clash with Egypt.
The team then delivered on the pitch.
After a goalless opening 45 minutes, Dithejane broke the deadlock in the 50th minute with the only goal of the match.
Egypt were unable to find a response, allowing Bafana to see out the win and leave Cairo with another confidence-boosting result.
The victory also gives South Africa three wins from their last three outings, following the earlier successes against Guinea and Eritrea.
For a team looking to build momentum, the timing could hardly be better. Bafana now have another significant result to add to their recent run, while Mosimane’s side continue to show that they can produce results away from home.
And in Cairo, they did it with a clean sheet and a single goal that proved enough.
