All genres, with a special focus on comedy, satire and children’s theatre are welcome.
Those interested need to supply a theme, storyline, short description of the characters, and at least five pages of dialogue. Proposed scripts must also include text long enough for a performance of at least 10 minutes. While a complete script is welcome, it is not a prerequisite.
The closing date to submit proposals is Monday, 3 July. Scripts in any of the official languages of South Africa will be considered.
Script proposals can be sent to Daventia Kennedy at [email protected].

The initiative forms part of the Klein Karoo Nasionale Kunstefees’ Teksmark programme. Since its inception in 2016, a total of 36 script ideas have been developed into full-stage productions.
As per the Southern Mail, an independent panel oversees all scripts. Directors and actors are appointed to perform an excerpt of 10 minutes as play readings to theatre representatives, festivals, producers, other possible investors and theatre enthusiasts.
Playwrights also get a chance to discuss their script ideas, and the audience can engage in a question-and-answer session.
