Naftal Zandamela, the man charged with the murder of Warren Rhoode, has decided to abandon his bail application. Zandamela made a brief appearance at the Bellville Magistrates’ Court on Monday morning, facing charges of murder and robbery with aggravating circumstances.
The accused informed the court of his decision, stating that he would remain in custody until his next court date scheduled for September.

Rhoode’s body was discovered in May after he was reported missing.
According to the State, Rhoode had sustained multiple stab wounds, and his personal belongings had been stolen. The prosecution further revealed that Zandamela had been in possession of Rhoode’s cell phone following his disappearance.

According to News24, Zandamela’s arrest took place on Thursday by the provincial police’s serious crime unit. The court also learned that the accused had previously violated his parole and had been sentenced to 15 years for house robbery. His parole, originally set to end in 2027, was still in effect at the time of Rhoode’s murder.
In a previous report by News24, it was disclosed that Rhoode’s body had remained unclaimed at the Tygerberg mortuary for nearly two weeks before his family was finally notified.
The last known sighting of Rhoode was on 23 April in Eindhoven, Delft. He had been driving a black Polo Vivo at the time of his disappearance.
As the investigation continues, the family and loved ones of Warren Rhoode seek justice for his death.
The court proceedings will resume next week.
