A fire has destroyed 11 wendy houses and a number of shacks in Kleinvlei. Humanitarian Organisation, The Shackbuilder, is on site supporting displaced families.
Director Quinton Adams has been building informal homes in Freedom Farm for 15 years. “Quinton has made it his mission to restore the dignity of people, especially children living in informal settlements, by building them decent homes,” says the organisation’s official website.
According to SABC News, Quinton and the team are providing food and clothes to the families who have lost their home.
“The team in Kleinvlei will continue to support the victims of the fire usually this time of the year it’s the beginning of what they call shack fire season. We will see more of these shack fires in communities informal settlements and of course backyard dwellers,” he said to SABC News.
