On Thursday, 14 October, the body of a baby was found during a clean-up operation at an illegal dump site in Kraaifontein.
According to the City of Cape Town’s mayoral committee member for Urban Waste Management, Grant Twigg, the incident was immediately reported to the police, reports EyeWitness News.
In statement, Alderman Grant Twigg said:
“The City of Cape Town’s cleansing team was busy cleaning an illegal dumping spot along Maroela Road in Kraaifontein, when they found the body of the baby,” the City’s mayoral committee (Mayco) member for urban waste management, Alderman Grant Twigg.”
In addition, the City’s cleansing teams have been cleaning public spaces across Cape Town as part of a spring clean campaign which targets litter and illegal dumping.
According to Twigg the staff who were on site and stumbled upon the body while cleaning the area will be offered counselling.
“It was a complete shock for all on site when a body of a baby was found,” said Twigg.
