The accused, Anushka Braaf, made her first appearance in court on charges of assault and crimen injuria, where she was greeted by protestors, including representatives of the EFF, calling for action to be taken against bullying.
The matter was postponed until next week, according to the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA).
‘Anushka Braaf appeared at the Mitchells Plain Magistrate’s Court 6,’ the NPA confirmed.
‘The matter was postponed to September 6 for further investigation and consultation with the complainant.’
Braaf was charged after a video of her beating up Mishqah Arend, allegedly over a man, went viral.
In the video, she is heard accusing Arend of speaking about her and asking her whether she wants to be beaten up before using her fists to do so, leaving Arend with a bloodied face.
Over the weekend, a source told the Daily Voice that Arend was accused of ‘stepping into’ Braaf’s marriage, an allegation she denied, saying that Braaf had been separated from her husband for two years.
The accused subsequently apologised on TikTok.
