City of Cape Town law enforcement officers arrested three suspect while on patrol in the areas of Vredehoek after spotting a suspicious vehicle with tinted windows parked in the vicinity of Deer Park.
According to JP Smith, the presence of law enforcement does help to create a visible crime deterrent, however, it was the officers’ industry experience that enabled them to follow their suspicions that ultimately led to the suspects’ arrest and prevent potential hijacking.

Despite the tinted windows, the City officers could make out the silhouettes of three occupants and approached the vehicle for enquiry of their suspected untoward behaviour.
‘They approached the vehicle and the occupants became nervous, not being able to provide any form of credible reasoning for their actions,’ said JP Smith in a Facebook post.
‘The enforcement officers enquired if they had any prohibited articles within the vehicle and the occupants denied such and consented to a search of the vehicle.’
Following the search, however, a modified tool jig and an alarm jamming device were found below the seat.
Smith added that the tool jig is typically used to force the mechanism of ignition locks while the device is used to jam alarm remote signals.
The three suspects were subsequently arrested for the possession of car breaking implements.
During the arrest, a member of the public told the officers that he had noticed the same individuals observing him earlier while he had been at his vehicle.
