His release was unopposed by the State.
The incident allegedly took place after the woman approached him for a job. One of his constituents laid the charge against him last Tuesday.
It is believed that earlier this year, the ANC called for the councillor to face disciplinary action after 20 grievances were laid against him.
In accordance with the Criminal Procedure Act related to sexual offences, the accused cannot be named until he has pleaded to the charge.
“We will be monitoring the situation to make sure the law applies to everyone despite the position. Any suspect accused of gender-based violence must face the law,” says Philippi Community Policing Forum Spokesperson Yaseen Johaar who felt “disturbed” by the allegation.
The case was postpones to 6 December 2022 for further investigation.
