Airports Company SA (Acsa) has made a considerate effort to remove 3 000 families living within the airport vicinity.
Airports Company SA (Acsa) and the City of Cape Town (CoCT) signed a memorandum of agreement called the Symphony Way Development Corridor (SWDC) on 13 December 2013.

A meeting was held this week between Acsa and the informal settlements with new Mayco member, Carl Joshua Pophaim to pick up from where they left off with the Symphony Way Development Corridor housing project.
The Symphony Way Development Corridor Housing project is set to resume in the first quarter of 2024.

Acsa said the new move would enable the development and rehabilitation of the airport, in partnership with the City of Cape Town.
Some of the areas included in the relocation plans include Blikkiesdorp, Freedom Farm, and Malawi Camp. Acsa also stated that only qualifying families would benefit from the RDP housing project.
The motivating reason behind the new project is that more informal settlements have emerged, posing a serious threat to safety and operations.
