The Brackengate 2 JV development between Redefine Properties Limited and VDMV Property Holdings will comprise a 5.5MW rooftop solar wheeling project that is in line with the City’s climate change and sustainability energy objectives.
Once complete, it will help pave the way for commercial entities to sell electricity back to the City’s grid, Green Building Africa reports.

It is expected that the 5.5MW solar wheeling project, which will be installed at a cost of R86 million on the roof of the Brackengate 2 Business Park, will redirect 8.8 million kWh to the national grid per year and save 9.394 tonnes of carbon emissions.
The Brackengate 2 Business Park is located where the R300 converges with Bottelary Road, next to Stikland and Brackenfell. The solar installation will be situated on the roof of the wholly-owned Massmart Distribution Centre, which measures more than 60 000 square metres.
The project is being finalised for implementation in 2024 and should take about 60 weeks to complete.
