The next phase in the renovation of Muizenberg’s beach huts officially kicked off this week and is scheduled for completion by late November. Forming part of the Muizenberg Huts Refurbishment Project, this endeavour builds on the efforts of the Friends of the Muizenberg Huts.
Following the successful completion of Phase 1, which focused on refurbishing the beach huts at Surfers Corner, the Recreation and Parks Department, with support from the Corporate Project Programme and Portfolio Management Department, has now embarked on Phase 2.
This phase involves the rejuvenation of the beach huts located on the Muizenberg East Beach Side, with an allocated budget of R5.9 million.

We look forward to working closely with the community and stakeholders throughout this project to create a vibrant and sustainable beachfront destination for locals and visitors alike,’ he said.

‘The City also appreciates the continued involvement of the Friends of the Muizenberg Huts, with whom the Recreation and Parks Department has a cooperative agreement around the maintenance and management of the huts. The Friends group also managed to secure a donation of Everite cladding for the refurbishment project. However, I want to appeal to the public at large to help us preserve these iconic structures that help make the Cape Town coastline so unique by using them with care and helping to protect them,’ Councillor van der Ross said.
