According to the Cape Winelands District Municipality (CWDM), the fire is fuelled by a mix of strong winds and mixed alien vegetation. Two teams are currently working to protect homes in an informal settlement adjacent to the field, while another is trying to stop the fire from moving towards the mountain, where it could spread quickly.
Nine CWDM Fire vehicles and crews are helping on the ground.
Firefighters will keep working through the night unless the situation changes.
