Cape Town bids farewell to another successful chapter of the Identikidz child safety project, celebrating a remarkable season marked by significant achievements.
This year’s statistics reveal a record-breaking number of over 130 000 children tagged, representing a notable increase over the past three seasons.
The news continues with the lowest number of children lost, boasting 302 reunions. Identikidz has demonstrated consistent growth each year.
In the previous festive season of 2021/22, Identikidz staff tagged 98 232 children, leading to 338 reunions. The subsequent season of 2022/23 witnessed 126 669 tagged children, with 403 successfully reunited with their families.

The recent season has surpassed expectations, with an impressive 133 730 children tagged and 302 reunions. The Identikidz team’s dedication and hard work have played a pivotal role in the project’s success.
Their commitment, even in challenging conditions, has contributed to the initiative’s growth and effectiveness. Mayoral Committee Member for Community Services and Health Councillor Patricia Van der Ross expressed her gratitude to the Identikidz team and beachgoers who recognised the project’s value.
Notably, Strand emerged as the busiest location, with 21 536 children tagged and 67 reunions. Strandfontein and Muizenberg also contributed significantly, with 17 903 children tagged (54 reunions) and 16 803 children tagged (42 reunions), respectively.
As Cape Town closes this chapter of Identikidz, Councillor Van der Ross emphasises the importance of continued vigilance, urging the public to stay alert during the remaining summer outings.
