Police Minister Beki Cele visited the Cape Town Railway Station on Friday as part of the South African Police Service’s (SAPS) annual festive season inspection roadshow.

As per EWN, he assessed the effectiveness of SAPS’ festive season safety operational plans. Thembisile Patekile, the provincial commissioner, and Fannie Masemola, the national police commissioner, accompanied him.

‘One thing that has made me happy is the visibility. I think the ‘Project 10,000’ is really helping us. Even here, we find the young ones moving those that come from the college – which has been one of the cries. It has been a serious dry season for the visibility.’
The Cape Town station is the third stop on the national oversight visit. The minister first completed his inspections in Gauteng and the Eastern Cape and will move on to KwaZulu-Natal.
Earlier this month, 10 000 new SAPS recruits completed their training in Project 10K, which was launched last year as a means to fill capacity gaps in the service.
Cele announced the deployment of an additional 10 000 police officers this year to increase SAPS’ presence across the country and curb criminal activities during the festive season.
